These landscape vessels are part of my new Fourmilewater collection, my father’s homeplace, and the blue fence that my uncle built during Covid. It marks a place of safety and also frames the ever changing vistas from this place. The blending and layering of fabrics and colours and textures conveys the topography, vegetation and climate, hinting at its biodiversity. In ecological terms a ‘remnant habitat’ is one that remains largely undisturbed and this work also provides a sense of landscape as a powerful and permanent protagonist, in contrast with the lives of the inhabitants of these places which, by comparison are fragile and in flux.
