When as artists, we pick up a brush, with which to paint or our pencils and pens to sketch, it is because we are inspired by something, be it tangible, from the depths of our imagination or perhaps an experience that has affected us. In the action of painting as an emotional response, we are enriched.
For me, the mere fact that something I have created, has the possibility to resonate with the viewer, elicit a reaction which makes them stop and think, remember, recall, and perhaps inspire, is enriching in itself. It encourages me to continue to explore my creativity.
The art around us is enriching to us all. It is essential nourishment for the soul.
I have been painting since I was old enough to hold a brush in my hand. I studied Environmental Design at DIT in the 80s before continuing my studies in NCAD. Over the years I have worked in Fashion and Textile design before moving into illustration, where I worked chiefly as a greeting card designer.
More recently, I have returned to painting. I work primarily in Watercolour, Chalk Pastels and Pen and Wash.
A series of my Pastel paintings have been jury selected on numerous occasions by Pastel en Perigord in the Dordogne France and most recently by Pastel d’Opale in Normandy where three of my pastel paintings were selected for their bi-annual show 2022.
