Waterford-based artists Paddy Dwan and Mark Roper have teamed up again to create a beautiful book that honours the nature of the Déise.
The latest book celebrates the coastline of Waterford.
According to Mark: “It is a long and very beautiful coastline, extraordinarily varied. The coves of Ballymacaw and Rathmoylan were well known to Paddy Dwan as a child – the book includes a wonderful evocation of the family holidays he spent there.”
Other coves were well-known to the pair, but there were many which they found themselves visiting for the first time. The book wants to share their sense of discovery: “Look,” it says, “Look – rock, sea, curlew, shell. Look. Look.”
The book has been five years in the making and explores the coasts from Ferrypoint to Dunmore East. The book contains stories from people living and working on the coast, alongside accounts of the geology, industrial history, shipwrecks and the Irish language heritage of Ring (An Rínn).
