Does Art Enrich Life?

Our need for beauty is felt in the most basic demands of the human mind and heart.  We cannot grow without beauty – beauty of an act, beauty of word, beauty of thought, beauty of hearing and beauty of seeing.

We fall in love with beauty.  And so, a truly beautiful painting, sculpture, ceramic piece… has the power to draw us out of ourselves, out of our egos as we created it or view it.

Any time we achieve this state of selflessness we are open to contact between our soul and God.  Absolute attention is contemplation, it is prayer.

Before I began to write this piece, I posed this question to my eighty-eight-year-old mother Maureen – Does Art Enrich Life?  Her reply says all of the above in one wise sentence.

“Beautiful art lifts your spirit.”
