I work in Ferrous cement making figurative sculpture. Overall, my work attempts to distill and freeze in time a moment of emotional expression, captured in body posture and symbolism. My hope is to explore emotional landscapes and enrich viewers lives by initiating curiosity, attach to the familiar in the work and be curious by elements that may not seem to fit.
Words
Made by casting ferrous cement from a clay model, with blue pigment. This is a visual representation of blame, accusation and confrontation. The pointed finger symbolising the act of holding someone accountable with a sense of urgency.
The texture of this work is a key aesthetic with its attention seeking colour and rough textural finish. The blue body contributes to its visual impact and symbolism, blue can evoke a range of emotions, including calmness, sadness, or intensity. In this context, I wanted the blue to suggest a deep, simmering anger to amplify the visual language.
The viewer might find a connection with the accuser or transversely experience a sense of alienation, if they associate more with the space beyond the pointed finger. In this way I hope it is an enriching experience.
