I work in Ferrous cement making figurative sculpture. Overall, my work attempts to distill and freeze in time a moment of emotional expression, captured in body posture and symbolism. My hope is to explore emotional landscapes and enrich viewers lives by initiating curiosity, attach to the familiar in the work and be curious by elements that may not seem to fit.
The Reluctant Flower
In this work I’ve altered the figure’s form in the hope that viewers can draw on contrasting elements, both its tension and harmony and be able to engage with the theme of perceptual distortion.
Flowers generally represent ideas of beauty, growth, and the cycle of life. The idea of a flower that hesitates to bloom or resists this process animates a discord between external appearance and internal identity, between different aspects of self. I wanted to explore how external influences clash and intertwine with an opposite internal narrative.
